Round Pens

A round pen is a circular corral used to safely train horses.  They are made by linking together 10’ or 12’ panels to achieve a desired diameter.  In general most people request 40’, 50’ or 60’ round pens.  They come in a variety of heights from 5’ to 6’ tall.  The taller the round pen, the harder it is for the horse to attempt to jump out.  Round pens also include one gate panel.  Most gates would require you to lead the horse into the pen.  The gauge of the steel may vary from panel to panel.  In general, if the panel weighs more than another of the same length and height it is heavier duty.

Besides height, length and weight, there are a few more features that these panels may have.

Round Pen Connectors

The connection system will either be drop pin in design or chain hook up.  The pins tend to workbest on level ground. The chain gives you more flexibility for uneven surfaces. The legs can be square or J shaped or they might be just a straight single bar.  The advantage of the straight leg is one less thing for a horse to stick its foot into.
